Do you like U2 Music?
Do you know someone that likes U2 Music?
Do you like worship that is a little edgy?
Do you like lots of images?
Do you have trouble sitting still?
Do you ever feel tempted to just get up and dance in the middle of worship?
Do you just want to have fun and know that you are also being socially responsible?
Maybe, just maybe we have the experience for you.
And yes it is socially responsible.
And yes it is worship!
On Sunday evening, March 29 at 7:00 PM
FCCUCC will be hosting a U2 Eucharist
If you have been wondering what “ U2 ” means—this may not be the experience for you—then again… U2 is a rock band that is really, really popular. They began as a Christian band, and successfully crossed over into becoming one of the most popular bands of the last twenty years. They won’t come, but the band is really “cool” about letting churches and groups use their music for worship experiences called “ U2 Eucharists .” Basically this is a worship service that utilizes lots of their music (usually pretty loud). In the middle of the service there is communion (Eucharist). Usually there are the pieces of the liturgy as well as a simple message. Sometimes worshipers have been known to start dancing in the aisles. Okay, the dancing doesn’t happen all that often.
What is also really cool about U2 is that they are concerned about the World. You may have heard of their lead singer, Bono, and how he has been actively engaged with leaders all over the world calling them to assist in areas like safe water, third world debt relief, AIDS assistance, education support, etc.
For the privilege of using their music, U2 asks one small favor, an offering to go toward “The Millennium Goals.” These are a set of eight goals established by the United Nations. They include elements like: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; achieve universal primary education; promote gender equality and empower women; reduce child mortality; improve maternal health; combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; ensure environmental sustainability; and develop global partnership for development. Our response to their request is “OF COURSE!”
We at FCCUCC, have decided that the offering on the night of March 29 should be designated for HIV/AIDS assistance in Africa, where HIV/AIDS is pandemic.
Contact the church office or Pastor Bruce for further information.
